When animals lick themselves to groom, do they taste anything?

Sure they do, they have taste buds. Animals' taste buds are rougher than a human's so they can taste better, even if they don't like the taste of cleaning themselves.

i think they do like the taste of cleaning themselves. if they don't,why do they clean so often?

But imagine licking up crap off your skin or hair! Everytime I look at my dogs lick their feet especially, I always wonder if they actually taste something or they shut their taste buds off or something.

You have to ask the vets about that.
